Interview with Professional Sexters
Recently, the adult industry has gained popularity among those working with traffic. Agencies and models on OnlyFans and Fansly often mention sexters who manage their accounts. However, many people don’t know why they are needed and what role they play in the adult industry.
Essentially, a sexter is a traffic handler for an OnlyFans profile, responsible for interacting with members and selling them the model’s content. Sexters typically work on commission from the sold material, so sales skills are crucial.
We decided to interview three professional sexters to share the details and nuances of their work and to discuss their earnings. This article will also be useful for those looking to start working as a sexter or considering a career change.

Hi! Tell us about yourself: what do you do in the adult industry, how long have you been here, and why did you choose this field?
Hi there! My name is Hinator, and I am the owner of the Sexters Research project. We specialize in recruiting and training employees for the adult industry. Initially, we only trained sexters, but now we also train managers, team leaders, admins, and owners. I’ve been working since 2018. I chose this field because I loved adult content in my youth, and a friend suggested working as a sexter in his team. That’s how my sinful and thorny path in the adult industry began.
You train sexters. Tell us a bit about who sexters are and what their job entails?
A sexter is essentially a chat operator. They communicate with members on behalf of the model, manage interactions, and sell content in the form of videos, photos, or text-based virtual sex.
What makes an ideal sexter? What skills, knowledge, and qualities should they have?
To me, the ideal sexter is creative and communicative with a broad vocabulary. Personality-wise, they should be responsible, punctual, and engaged. These qualities combine to form an excellent and powerful sexter.
How much do sexters earn: from beginners to top earners?
This is the most common question I hear. The answer varies: it depends on the individual’s qualities. If they are communicative, have a broad vocabulary, and good English skills, they can expect quick career and salary growth. It also depends on the agency, working conditions, and commission rates. Generally, a beginner sexter can earn $200–500 in the first month. More experienced sexters working for a few years on good accounts with decent commissions can earn from $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the conditions.

How can you distinguish a member who just wants to waste time from a paying member or a big spender? What are the signs?
The simplest method to identify a non-paying member is the “homeless test.” The most common sign is a request for a discount or something for free. If there are no obvious signs, we conduct the test by asking leading questions and sending a cheap product to see if they are willing to spend money or if they are just freeloaders.
How should you interact with members? What are the main rules to drive sales and keep their interest?
There are many aspects to consider. First, respectful communication is essential, regardless of the model’s theme. Second, adaptive communication: you need to adjust to the client and the situation. Creative people will find this easy, which is why creativity is important for a sexter. To drive sales, it’s crucial to follow the main concept of the dialogue, known as the script. The script is not a template but a dialogue structure that aligns with the model’s concept. Following a well-prepared script can lead the member towards making a purchase.
Do you think members already know that they are not talking to the model in the messages?
It’s hard to say; it depends on the individual. Some continue to believe it’s the model, while others understand that they are chatting with someone else, like Vasily, Anatoly, or Ekaterina.
What are the taboos in communication? What should be avoided and why?
There are many taboos, and much depends on the model’s concept. For example, if you have a femdom model, the babygirl concept won’t fit. Also, remember the forbidden words on OnlyFans and other platforms: there are certain categories, words, and phrases that are prohibited. Be careful and monitor what you write — it’s better to rewrite than to get banned.

Femdom or female domination is one of the trends in adult, which involves the dominance of a woman over a man or another woman.
Babygirl is an adult trend in which the model positions herself as a little girl.
How do you make additional sales: is it worth asking for money for lingerie, manicures, or other things? Or is this not applicable to everyone?
The topic of additional sales is handled differently in each case, but generally speaking, it’s worth doing if it’s acceptable. This technique is used only with regulars, not with random members. Trust is crucial; without it, you can lose the member. If trust is established and you’re dealing with a regular, you can try. It’s acceptable when the person is comfortable with sales and willing to pamper you, but don’t overdo it, as it can ruin the relationship.
Who do you think is suited for the job of a sexter, and who is not?
People have different values, and being a sexter is a creative profession. It’s not just about sending nudes; you need to communicate with people like us. The ability to adapt, think, and come up with ideas is not for everyone, and our industry lacks this. The job is not suitable for restless, slow-thinking people who can’t type quickly or handle complex situations effectively.
What advice would you give to aspiring sexters with no experience?
Develop your creativity: read books, understand scripts, study dialogue structures, and model concepts. Also, learn English — it’s very important as all work communication is in English. Reading helps express yourself beautifully and articulate your thoughts clearly. Sometimes, we encounter people at interviews who struggle to string two words together. If someone can’t articulate their thoughts verbally, they’re unlikely to do better in writing.

Can you share a funny or interesting case related to work?
There are so many situations every day that it’s hard to single out one particularly memorable event. It’s amusing to see people showing involvement and initiative during interviews with HR but then disappearing when we hand them over to employers. It’s also funny to see employers who come to us, thinking we do verification and training out of goodwill. They’re surprised when we mention that we charge for our work, not as a charity.
How hard is it to find an expert employee in the adult industry?
The situation with expertise in the adult industry is terrible. People think there’s no need to learn, that they don’t need expertise, and that they can figure things out on the go, but without a knowledge base, that’s impossible. As an experienced person, I can say that practice alone doesn’t guarantee expertise. Without theory, practice is ineffective. You need to combine both. Pay attention to educational resources: learn yourself, train employees, and take courses. And remember, we also offer training, so feel free to contact us.

“In My Opinion, It’s Better Than Working at McDonald’s or KFC” — An Interview with Elizabeth, a Sexting Admin in an Agency
Hi! Tell us about yourself: how long have you been in the adult industry and why did you choose it? How long have you been a sexter? Hi, my name is Lisa. I work as an admin at an agency and as a sexter. I’ve been in the adult industry since June 2022. I knew about this field for a long time because my friends have been working here for several years. I chose this job because it was the most convenient option at the time: remote work from home that seemed manageable. And that’s how I stayed here.
Can you describe your daily work routine? What are your responsibilities? Since I work as an admin as well as a sexter, I have more responsibilities. As a sexter, I chat with members daily, monitor activity, and provide feedback for making decisions about ad purchases. For instance, if activity drops, this problem needs to be fixed. I also keep an eye on the content: seeing what’s needed, what the model lacks, and what her audience is like. As an admin, I create schedules, fill out income spreadsheets, train newcomers, and resolve issues that arise with members and models. These are my main duties.
Who is an ideal sexter? What skills, knowledge, and qualities should they have? One of the most important qualities is knowledge of English. As experience shows, people with poor English skills can’t work effectively. You need to understand what is required of you and think quickly. Sitting through a shift with a translator won’t get you far. You also need to know the slang, names, and meanings of fetishes, etc. A sexter needs to find an approach to each member, manipulate them to feel loved and accepted, and keep them coming back to buy more. Every member is different, and you need to find an approach to each one.

How much do sexters earn, from beginners to top performers? And how much do you earn on average? Income is a very sensitive topic. When I train new people who join our agency, they often ask this question during the introduction. I have to find a neutral answer because earnings in our field are unstable: there can be very good months where you can earn several thousand dollars, and there can be bad months where you earn less than $1,000. Income depends on many factors. For a new employee, it depends on how quickly they learn. It’s also important how well advertising works, how packed the schedule is, and what the activity is on the page. For example, if there’s no activity, there will be no earnings. I personally earn, on average, just under $2,000. In November, December, and January, earnings were perfect, and it was over $2,000. That’s enough for me. In my opinion, it’s better than working at McDonald’s or KFC. I worked there, and after 14 hours on my feet, I barely earned above minimum wage.
How can you distinguish a member who just wants to waste time from a paying member or a whale? What are the signs? There are several ways to distinguish a paying member from a freeloader. If you keep sending them content and they don’t open it, saying they’ll open it after payday or later because they don’t have money now, they don’t plan to spend. In my experience, members with nicknames like “daddy” or “bigdick” and with avatars of genitalia are often freeloaders. Though there have been paying members with such nicknames and avatars. Age is also important: always ask a new member how old they are. If they are 18–19, the chances they will pay are very low. I had only one member under 20 who paid. These are the main signs.

What are the basic rules for making a sale and keeping interest? How do you communicate with members? The most important thing is to find the right approach for each member. Besides using scripts, you need to adapt and identify their needs. You need to be able to maintain interest and communicate with people, as banal as it sounds.
You need to create the illusion that they are interesting and you want to talk to them. Personally, I always look for an individual approach: I observe how they write, what words, emojis, and style of communication they use, and then I mirror that. It doesn’t work with everyone, but it keeps many engaged.
Do you think members now understand that it’s not the model chatting with them? Surprisingly, very few understand this. Despite the fact that the secret that a bearded guy, not a sweet girl, is chatting with fans has become more well-known. Sometimes you encounter those who ask for a video where the model says their name before buying anything. Or they write, “Send me a photo with a paper that has my nickname on it.” Of course, all this can be easily photoshopped. Most believe it’s really the model chatting and don’t even ask. For those who start asking for proof, there’s always a way out. I don’t see this as a problem, except in special cases.

What are the taboos in communication? What should be avoided and why? Don’t touch on topics banned by adult platforms that could get you banned. Other than that, it depends on the person. It’s best not to pry too much into their personal life, as it might scare them off, but that’s not taboo. Many are looking for a connection with the model and want to share their personal life. You can ask a question, and if it’s clear the person is uncomfortable, apologize and don’t ask again.
How do you know when it’s time to ban a member? How do you avoid mistakes here? If they are non-paying members who are abusive, there’s no need to be lenient. But if it’s someone who pays and something goes wrong, it’s different. I had cases where a person paid for a long time, knew the model’s taboos, but after a while started asking for them. If they don’t understand that the model won’t do it and continue to pester you, there’s nothing you can do. Or if a member tries to find out personal information about the model, that’s also grounds for a ban. There were cases where a fan found out the model’s information, even where she lived — such people are banned immediately.

How do you make additional sales: should you ask for money for lingerie, a manicure, or something else? Or is this not suitable for everyone? You can do this, but smartly. For example, with paying members with whom you have a long-term relationship and emotional attachment: you constantly talk, discuss life, love, romance, all that. We have a member who has donated over $15,000, and with him, it’s like a relationship. In this case, you can definitely ask for money for a manicure, dinner, a dress, or jewelry. But it’s important to remember that if you ask for money for a dress, you need to show proof later. You need to inform the model to find a dress and take a photo as proof. Asking ordinary members, with whom you chat once a week and who buy some content, is not worth it. It’s logical: why should he pay for a dinner for some model he just masturbates to? There are, of course, kind guys who can send a few dollars for pizza, but it’s better not to ask.
Who do you think is suited for the job of a sexter, and who is not? I used to think this job wasn’t for everyone, but now I think differently. It depends on how well the person works. You can teach someone to sell, psychological tricks, English, fetishes, and slang, but that doesn’t guarantee they’ll be a good sexter. It’s all individual.
I started the same way. It worked out for me faster than other newbies without experience. I already had good English and understood the adult industry. Other people without language skills and knowledge of the field just need more time.
What advice can you give to beginners without experience? The main thing is not to get upset if you can’t sell much and take the job seriously. Often, new sexters come in and don’t take it seriously, thinking, “Oh, it’s just a side job, I’ll sit here and fool around.” You need to understand that working online doesn’t mean it’s not a serious job. Don’t be afraid to sell. I had a mental block where I was afraid to offer content or name a price to a member. If you realize someone can pay more, don’t be afraid to sell. Remember that the prices are fair and the model is worth it. You also need to learn, grow, and work as a team.

Tell us about a funny or interesting incident related to your work. Funny incidents happen every day. Some guys come in and write funny nonsense. The funniest for me is when I meet new people or my social circle finds out what I do for a living. I realize I shouldn’t say what I really do, so I make something up. I often say I’m a manager at an advertising agency. Or I say, “Never mind, you won’t understand.” Recently, I met someone, and when they started asking me what I do, I made up a story. Now I realize that if the conversation continues, I’ll have to tell the truth.
What do you think about the adult industry in general? And who is it suitable for?
— I hope that the sphere will live happily ever after. She will feed many people, just as she feeds me now and all those who will read this. This is a great way for students to earn money, or make it their main source of income. There are many prospects here, the main thing is to study. I want this area to flourish, not die, and for everyone to treat each other with respect and help. Thank you for your attention!
